www.urbansurf4kids.org purpose is teach children not only to swim and surf, most importantly we can use this opportunity to teach the value of giving back to their community. Our swim lessons, surf camps and time has price. As we have committed to giving back, we ask the students involved to sign an agreement that they will give back to their community. This is the model that can promote change.
UrbanSurf4kids was started in 2009 by founder Wesley Stewart
(who also help start www.sidelinesclub.org). “Simply put we wanted to do more locally, we had started sports programs that had a focus on serving orphanages in Mexico,Haiti, and another program for kids in Andros (largest island in Bahamas). The programs have been rewarding, however what where we doing locally? As one who enjoyed the ocean (surfing, boggie boarding, snokeling), the thought was to leverage these experiences. We created UrbanSurf4kids with a very simply motto Surf and Serve! The goal is to teach surfing with the agreement of kids to volunteer in their choice of community service. That’s it! Our vision is to have within San Diego (and beyond) a group of kids who can come together in various community services project and make a difference. We look forward to this challenge.
